Sharing Health and Happiness!
Yiqi Pao (literally translated “Running Together”) Running Club was founded in August 2004 and now has more than 11,000 members throughout Shanghai. If you are interested in joining us, we meet every Tuesday evening for a 5 kilometer run around Century Park in Pudong (see details below). It’s a fun and healthy way to make new friends. Everyone goes at their own pace, so don’t worry if 5 kilometers is too much for you at first. In fact, we have experienced marathon runners and athletes in the club who will coach you and encourage you to get the most out of your run at your given fitness level. Before long it will become a breeze and you will experience a real sense of achievement as you notice your body, mind and fitness levels improving. In fact, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you are capable of with a bit of friendly encouragement and experienced coaching. Many of our first-time runners find themselves finishing the full 5km circuit without even stopping to catch a breath, something they never thought was possible. Of course, if you are a seasoned runner, you may want to do the circuit twice! Runners who have completed 6 runs get a free club shirt that has been sponsored by the likes of Nike and Adidas, Mizuno, Columbia, Reebok, Skechers and etc.
Venue: Gate 7, Pudong Century Park, at the junction of Hua Mu Road and Hai Tong Road, just across the road from Exit 1 of Century Park Metro Station. Look out for a group of people wearing orange running shirts.
Time: We usually start with a warm up at 7:20pm and begin our run at 7:30pm, every Tuesday, heading clockwise around the park. If you arrive late, or would prefer not to run the full 5km right off the bat, you can simply start your run counter-clockwise until you meet your fellow runners coming from the opposite direction and follow them back to the starting point!
During the summer months, we often get between 40 to 80 people running every Tuesday, and probably about 20 to 60 in the winter. Moreover, there will always be a healthy crowd, come rain or shine, so there’s no need to check for cancellations should it rain, just turn up and we’ll be there.
If you have a bag or other personal belongings with you, we can help you store them in other runners’ cars during the run.
After the run, we have a short cool down session before heading off to a restaurant for dinner, or simply join us for a chance to meet and get to know the other runners. Dinner is shared and works out at roughly 25 Yuan per head.
For those of you who are really keen, there is an additional run every Thursday and also one on Sundays (please check with the website for confirmation of Sunday runs). We also have special training sessions devoted to distance running such as marathon training, special triathlon training, and training for the Hong Kong 100K.
