i was talking about this race with suesu on our way home last saturday night. it's a boston qualifying race, and it's the first time ever running event hold in feburary in ottawa when the temperature usually goes down to -20 and even lower. i started the training in windchill from christmas and i finished the half-marathon one.

It's really a preious experience. It must be very hard to run in such cold weather.

Brovo, Liang. Wow, nice photo shots. What an unusual experience you had. Wet shoes, socks and freezing toes. I don't think I can even walk, let alone run in snow. It reminds me of the winter in New York. I was not into running back then.  I can also imagine the  tough laundry work afterwards.

My heart  already frozen seeing the snow.  I was in Belfast - Northern Ireland  with -28 degree and I still remember how cold it was. -20 degree, no way I would run in such, so my salute to Liang!!!!

we love the snowings, and we were lucky to have it all that morning. usually the snowing means a moderate day when the thick clouds cumulated in the sky protecting us from the otherwise strong wind circulation which would absorb energy more quickly from human bodies. we were never afraid of the temperature but the windchill, if you see a very clear sky, it usually means a huge space for wind to run freely everywhere in high speed and then you'd better stay at home and change to the treadmill. what we really worried was a rainy day or rainy/snowing day, rain drops will immediately be iced on ground forming an ice layer turning to a huge hazard to runners, and if a thin snow layer covers the ice layer, it becomes a trap!

I was not interested in any exercise at all when I lived in New York area. So, my only foreign running experience was last October when I flew to Chicago to run the annual Chicago Marathon. There were more than 40,000 runners racing for full marathon. It was a lot of fun. My photo you see here on the left is from that race. After Chicago, I flew right back and put myself back to training again for the November's Shanghai Marathon.

this was a very interesting race i went to last year, which is called canada army run. it's the first-ever running event supported by canadian army, and they are trying to make it a millitary tradition like the ones in the states. but it seems the civilians are more interested to running on it.

i don't have many photos in my possession, but i like to show this one from their official website.   this was taken after race, and the organizers were very thoughtful to give us a reflecting cover sheet like the ones the kids wearing in the photo. it protected us from further sunburn and dehydrating, and it's like a light outlayer keeping us warm enough so we had no complain while waiting so long at the baggage check-out. i think this sheet is a very nice to have.
