Aluminum foil, sounds familiar. They passed this to runners at the finish line at Chicago marathon, too. Guess it's popular in that part of the world. Here bath towels are offered at the finish line.

quite interesting story from Liang, and very nice fotos. I had some running expeience in Munich, but never took part in marathons. In most cities of Germany, you can find quite a lot scenery routes specially for runners and bikers, and very user-friendly. They have clear signs along the way so you'll not get lost.
