Nike 10 k - pre-race dilemma

Weather permitted tomorrow is my 2nd Nike 10k. I know this is a very popular event and for many people this is their once a year running activity. For some this event inspire them to get into regular excercise like running. No doubt a very good initiative from a famous sporting goods brand.  In Hong Kong this event is so popular that the quota are filled within hours of opening for online entree. I never been able to join one back home for many reasons that I don't want to mention here.

Last year I did my first in Shanghai, it was a good experience but was hesitated to join this year until Yiqipao offered this time chip and chance to start at the front ( with 1000 is better than 10,000).  I was asked why worry so much since we will not be at the top 3 or even top 50 finishers.

To me a race is a race and we need to do the best against our own time. It is no point to enter a race when you have not a chance to do that.  Now I still hesitate as I have put on 3 kg and definitely cannot perform well. On the other hand I can only blame myself as I have never focus this as an event so may be better to treat it as a high quality training run or shall I just treat it as a fun run and take it easy ? But than it is against my doctrine ?

MM, you are over worried. I just got back from a long biz trip and has not run for weeks. My stomache aches since Wednesday and has not gone away. I could not eat the way I wanted to.  So I am very weak and has no stength at all. Last night, I could not even walk to the gym from the office.... Even though all my physical condition is against me, I will get up early and be dressed to race tomorrow morning. I want to be with our Yiqipao pals and enjoy the weather and running itself. Time chip can only record the time, not my happy mood while I run.  Unfortunately, mood is not in the competion index. Otherwise, I will definitely be top 10, if not top 3.
I run, and therefore I AM.

I agree with Sue. MM should take it easy for the Nike run. You can still run the best based on your current condition. It's more important to enjoy the process than the result.

Time chip can only record the time, not my happy mood while I run.  Unfortunately, mood is not in the competion index. Otherwise, I will definitely be top 10, if not top 3.

Haha, Suesu has the right mindset and determination,   Ok may be Lina is right just get out there and do the best, but then that "best"  is not the best......

Men are stubburn born so I believe.

it is  a  pity that i cant take part in this activity this year as a result of my broken leg
it suprised me that  u were worried about the competition ,  u have expericend so  many  running  race !
just take it  easy ,mabe u will not be the fastest one  .nevertheless ,u can be the happiest one !

weather forecast said  the  typhoon  named  MORAKOT   will come tonight ,i hope the race will not be cancelled  ,good luck !  
it  will be  raining  tomorrow  ,so u had better take raincost  along with urself

This is to MM -- I hope you are satisfied with your time today. As there is good time, there is also not-so-good time. Let's cheer for those who accomplished their best personal records at their good time. However, the encouragement also goes to those that accomplished the race with not-so-good time. No one is a forever winner. Yet no one is a loser either because we all finished the race without giving up.

Thanks Suesu for the encouragment, you are right, just finishing the run is an acheivement itself, almost given it up half way but even facing with not so good time I pushed on!
